No decision has been made as of yet on a new fire station for Glencolmcille, despite the current base being branded “inadequate” by one local deputy. Donegal South West Fine Gael TD Dinny McGinley was given the information in reply to a Dáil question tabled this week.

Deputy McGinley was told that further investment in the fire service in Donegal, including Glencolmcille will be considered under future capital programmes. It was confirmed however that the funding from the Department of Community, Rural & Gaeltacht Affairs is not currently available for a revamp of the facility. In a statement, Deputy McGinley has said there is an urgent need to replace the current fire station as he feels it’s inadequate to meet the needs of Glencolmcille.
